Wat
Phra Borommathat Chaiya Rajaworaviharn |

This
ancient temple is localted in Chaiya, 54 km. north
of Surat Thani, just a few kilometres east of Highway
41. Chaiya is one of southern Thailand's oldest towns,
believed to have been a centre of the Srivijayan Empire,
which was a Mahayana Buddhist seat base in Sumatra,
with strong Indian influences. In fact, it is likely
that the town's name comes from the second part of
the word 'Srivajaya'. |

A
great number of artifacts dating back a thousand years
or more have been recovered here, including a bronze
statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, an acclaimed
masterpiece now on display in the National Museum
in Bangkok. The main feature of Wat Phra Borommathat
is its chedi, which dates back to the ninth century
and is one of the few remaining examples of Srivajayan
architecture. |

ขนาด เล็ก ประดับตามมุม ส่วนยอด มี ๓ ชั้น ลด หลั่น
กันไป แต่ละชั้น ประดับด้วย สถูป ขนาดเล็ก ภายในบรรจุ
พระบรม สารีริกธาตุ เป็นที่ เคารพ สักการะ บูชา ของชาว
สุราษฎร์ธานี และ ชาวไทย โดยรอบ องค์พระบรมธาตุ มี พระวิหารคด
หรือ พระวิหารราย ซึ่ง ประดิษฐาน พระพุทธรูป สกุลช่างไชยา
อยู่ภายใน เรียกว่า "พระเวียน" เรียงรายอยู่
